Who Is Khalid?

If “Location” or “Young Dumb & Broke” has ever played in the background of a moment you’ll never forget — that was Khalid. Khalid Donnel Robinson was born on February 11, 1998, in Fort Stewart, Georgia. The son of a U.S. Army sergeant, he spent his childhood moving between military bases in Germany, New York, and Kentucky before settling in El Paso, Texas for his senior year of high school. That transient upbringing became the raw material for everything he would create. Khalid began writing songs in high school in El Paso, turning the highs and lows of the teenage experience into anthems that defined a generation. His 2017 debut album American Teen became an instant breakthrough, with his first two singles “Location” and “Young Dumb & Broke” both landing in the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 20. 103.5 KISS FM

Within a period of just over a year, Khalid went from an unknown, everyday teenager to a chart-topping, platinum-certified pop star with Grammy nominations for “Location” and American Teen, plus Logic’s “1-800-237-8255,” on which he appeared. LinkedIn

He was 19 years old. And he was just getting started.

The Sound: R&B Built for Real Moments

Khalid doesn’t make background music. He makes the kind of songs that play in exactly the right moment — on a late-night drive, at the end of a relationship, at the beginning of a summer that changes everything. His voice carries a warmth and vulnerability that’s rare in pop music, and it’s been consistent through every chapter of his career.

In his own words about making American Teen: “I had my entire life to make that album. It was real. It was authentic. These were real experiences. I’m passing out in the back of cabs with my friends, sneaking out and going to parties, finding out about myself, but dealing with loneliness and feeling isolated.” Ticketmaster

That authenticity is what made him unavoidable — and it’s what has kept people loyal through every era.

His catalog runs deep. Collaborations with Normani (“Love Lies”), Benny Blanco (“Eastside”), Shawn Mendes (“Youth”), and Calvin Harris (“Rollin'”) are just a few moments where Khalid’s presence elevated everything around him. Songs like “Talk,” “Better,” and “Saturday Nights” have lived in playlists for years for a reason — they’re built to last.

The New Era: After the Sun Goes Down

After the Sun Goes Down is Khalid’s fourth studio album, released through RCA Records on October 10, 2025. And it represents something genuinely new — and genuinely freeing. Khalidtour2026

His first album as an openly gay artist after being outed by an ex-boyfriend, this newfound freedom charges the record with energy and fiery romance. Drawing from the themes of freedom and honesty that once defined American Teen, after the sun goes down is no longer Khalid’s escape from the world — it’s a celebration of it. Rated R&B

Khalid described the vision clearly: “This era is full acceptance and immersion to the community that I’m celebrating. I want to bring people together to celebrate, to have fun, to feel alive, to dance, to scream, to shout, to sing — and I wanted to make an album that would move people. I feel moved by it, which makes me feel like someone else will move too.” Ticketmaster

The album is a colorful set inspired by the dance-pop artists to whom he was drawn as a youngster — lead singles “In Plain Sight,” “Out of Body,” and “Nah” all point toward an artist who has found the freedom to just be himself, fully and without apology. The result is some of the most alive music Khalid has ever made. LinkedIn

Why This Tour Is a Big Deal

This is Khalid’s first headlining run in six years, celebrating his evolution and his daring new album After the Sun Goes Down. For anyone who grew up with American Teen, this moment has been a long time coming. And for fans who’ve followed every era — this is where it all comes together on one stage. Khalidtour2026

Expect a career-spanning setlist: the nostalgia of American Teen, the atmospheric depth of Free Spirit, and the dance-floor energy and liberation of After the Sun Goes Down. This isn’t a nostalgia tour. It’s an artist at a turning point, taking stock of everything he’s built and performing it all at full strength.

Worth noting: Lauv, who was originally supporting Khalid on the tour, stepped away in early June to focus on his mental health. Khalid responded with a public message of support: “I wanna take this moment to give thanks and appreciation to Lauv for joining me on the tour and doing the best he could with the struggles he’s facing with his mental health currently.” We’re wishing Lauv well — and keeping our eyes on any support act announcement for the remaining dates heading into San Diego. The San Diego date on June 22nd falls just two days before the Los Angeles show at The Greek Theatre and four days before the tour closes in Berkeley. The production is fully dialed in. Khalid is at his peak. San Diego gets him in the sweet spot of the final West Coast stretch.
