Two of the biggest names in R&B and hip-hop are hitting the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre on August 18th. Get ready.
San Diego, summer just got a whole lot better. On Tuesday, August 18th, 2026, two icons who defined an era of music are sharing the same stage under the stars at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in Chula Vista for one night only. Ne-Yo and Akon — two Grammy-winning, multi-platinum hitmakers whose songs have been the soundtrack to some of the best nights of your life — are co-headlining the Nights Like This Tour, and this is exactly the kind of summer show San Diego was built for.
Slow jams. Bangers. Nostalgic hits that hit differently when you hear them live. This one is going to be a vibe from start to finish.
Who Is Ne-Yo?
If you’ve ever been in your feelings to “So Sick,” slow-danced to “Closer,” or felt seen by “Miss Independent” — that’s all Ne-Yo. Shaffer Chimere Smith, born October 18, 1979, and known professionally as Ne-Yo, is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor. He’s one of the most versatile and talented artists in R&B history — and that’s not an overstatement.
His come-up is legendary in the industry. He first gained recognition for his songwriting abilities, penning Mario’s 2004 hit “Let Me Love You” — a song so good it became one of the biggest singles of the decade. That one credit opened every door. Its success led to a recording contract with Def Jam Recordings under then-president Jay-Z.
What followed was a run that most artists only dream about. His debut single “So Sick” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified quadruple Platinum. His first three albums all went platinum. His second album Because of You won a Grammy in the category of Best Contemporary R&B Album. And “Miss Independent” won Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards.
But here’s what separates Ne-Yo from the pack: the pen. He penned Rihanna’s “Unfaithful,” “Russian Roulette,” and “Take a Bow,” along with Beyoncé’s 2006 breakup anthem “Irreplaceable,” and songs for Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Carrie Underwood, and Celine Dion, among others. Three Grammys. Over 20 million adjusted albums sold worldwide. Twelve Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. This is a legend, full stop.

Who Is Akon?
If Ne-Yo is the smooth one, Akon is the one who made the whole party go up. Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam, known professionally as Akon, is a Senegalese-American singer, songwriter, record producer, businessman and philanthropist. Born in St. Louis to a Senegalese family, he spent a significant part of his childhood in Senegal, where he caught the music bug early and learned to play the drums, guitar, and djembe.
His road to stardom is one of the most compelling in music history. After spending time in prison, Akon began working on music during that time, then released his debut album Trouble in 2004. Its singles “Locked Up,” “Lonely,” and “Bananza (Belly Dancer)” were all huge hits, combining West African-style vocals with East Coast and Southern beats.
Then came Konvicted in 2006 — and Akon became truly inescapable. “Smack That” (featuring Eminem) peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 for five consecutive weeks. “I Wanna Love You,” featuring Snoop Dogg, became his first number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100. “Don’t Matter” earned him his first solo number one and second consecutive chart-topper.
The stats are staggering. Akon is credited with over 300 guest appearances and 45 Billboard Hot 100 songs. He is the first solo artist to hold both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice. He co-wrote Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance.” He worked with Michael Jackson. He discovered T-Pain. He also founded Akon Lighting Africa, a solar power initiative providing electricity across African countries. The man is not just a musician — he’s a force.

Why This Tour Is the One
When was the last time two artists with this depth of catalog shared a stage in San Diego? Think about what a setlist for this show looks like. On the Ne-Yo side alone you’ve got “So Sick,” “Sexy Love,” “Because of You,” “Closer,” “Miss Independent,” “Mad,” and “Champagne Life.” On the Akon side: “Locked Up,” “Lonely,” “Smack That,” “I Wanna Love You,” “Don’t Matter,” “Beautiful,” and “Right Now (Na Na Na).”
That’s not a setlist. That’s a greatest hits marathon from two of the most decorated artists of their generation, on the same night, in the same city.
The tour is described as a perfect blend of nostalgia and energy, irresistible to longtime fans and a new generation of audiences alike — from slow jams to bangers, each date promises a true celebration and an unforgettable atmosphere.

Tips for Your Night at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre
The North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre — also known around San Diego as “the Chula Vista Amp” — is one of the premier outdoor concert venues in Southern California. The 20,500-seat facility in Chula Vista has been known through the years as Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre, Sleep Train Amphitheatre, and Mattress Firm Amphitheatre until North Island Credit Union took over the naming rights in 2018. It’s hosted everyone from Stevie Nicks to Ice Cube to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Here’s how to make the most of your night.
The Address
North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre is located at 2050 Entertainment Circle, Chula Vista, CA 91911, right between Main Street and Heritage Road. It’s about a 20-minute drive from downtown San Diego, right off I-805.
🕗 Arrive Early — This Is Not Negotiable
Arrive early, as cars will be shuttling in and out of the vast general parking lot. Give yourself at least 90 minutes before showtime. The lot fills up fast, and you don’t want to miss a second of either set sitting in traffic.
🅿️ Parking — Know Your Options
General admission parking comes with your ticket at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre. If you want easier entry and exit, add Premier Parking, VIP Parking, Priority Parking, or EZ Out Parking onto your ticket. Real talk — if you want to actually leave after the show without sitting in traffic for an hour, the VIP or EZ Out upgrade is worth every penny. General parking is free but unless you leave early you will not get out faster than premier.
🚗 Rideshare Drop-Off
The designated rideshare pick-up and drop-off spots are located on the West side of the venue between lots C and F. Uber or Lyft is honestly a great call for a Tuesday night — skip the parking stress entirely and just enjoy the night.
🚌 Public Transit Is an Option
The venue is served by buses from the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System. Guests can also take the San Diego Trolley Blue Line to stations such as Palomar Street or Iris Avenue and transfer to a local bus or rideshare to reach the venue.
👜 Clear Bag Policy — Don’t Get Caught at the Gate
All bags must be clear and no larger than 12x12x6 to enter the venue. Bags that are not clear and larger in size will be turned away. They sell clear bags on-site, but save yourself the hassle and come prepared. A small clear crossbody or clutch is your best bet.
💧 Water Rules
One factory sealed bottle of water (not frozen) and no more than 20oz is allowed per guest. No outside food or other beverages will be permitted. Concessions inside the venue are stacked though — they lean into local favorites, including craft beer and Baja-inspired bites.
🌿 The Lawn Is the Move for This One
If you’re going with a crew, the lawn section at the Chula Vista Amp is one of the best spots in the region for a high-energy show. You’ve got space to dance, move, and feel every hit without being locked into a seat. Venue-specific lawn chairs are available for rent at either side of the lawn if you want to mix it up.
🎵 Best Seats in the House
Section 203 is ideal for views, being in the middle with excellent sound quality. Sections 201-205 all deliver solid elevated views of the full stage. If you want to be close to the action, sections 101-105 are the premium picks.
📸 Camera Policy
Personal point-and-shoot cameras are permitted inside the venue. Flash photography, video, or cameras with a removable lens are not permitted without venue approval. Your phone is fine — just be present and soak in the night.
