Cinco de Mayo is a popular holiday that celebrates Mexican heritage and culture in the United States by gathering with friends and family and drinking until the liquor stores close. In San Diego, there are plenty of places to celebrate the holiday with delicious food, drinks, and festivities. Here are some of the best places to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in San Diego this year:

  1. Old Town San Diego: This year you can celebrate Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with live entertainment, face painting, and a variety of vendors selling unique Mexican trinkets and souvenirs. This historic neighborhood is the perfect place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Old Town is known for its colorful buildings, traditional Mexican restaurants, and lively atmosphere.
  2. Tacotopia: San Diego Reader magazine is hosting an unlimited taco event post Cinco celebrations on May 6th. Taste traditional tacos, trendy tacos, and home town favorites with flavors inspired from TJ to LA. This Golden Hill comes with the promise of unlimited tacos, margarita bars, live music, lawn games and a great way to enjoy the sunshine. Get tickets for general entry, valid from 2pm-5pm providing tacos from all vendors while supplies last. (note: does not include drink tickets) VIP will get you early entry at 1pm which includes a drink and access to the vendors early.
  3. Seaport Village: A Bayfront Cinco de Mayo Celebration at Seaport Village is a free family friendly option on Saturday, May 6th. With special music and dance performances slated throughout the day, you can experience an equestrian showcase (horse show) from charros– or cowboys. Expect the vendors to be in full force along the entire bay making the most out of another American holiday.
  4. Gaslamp Quarter: The Gaslamp Quarter is a popular destination for nightlife in San Diego. On Cinco de Mayo, the area comes alive with live music, street performers, and festive decorations. Visitors can enjoy Mexican cuisine and tequila at the many bars and restaurants in the area. Gaslamp Event Management is hosting a massive Tequila & Taco Bar Club Crawl with access to 20 bars and 8 different welcome shots upon entry. Some of the major venues are in collaboration including parq, Onyx, Sevilla, Whiskey Gril and more!
  5. Rosarito, Mexico: If you’re up for an adventure, take a short trip across the border to Rosarito, Mexico and experience Papas and Beer. Cinco de Mayo is just one of their many festivals where you can indulge in 2-for-1 bottle specials and tequila shots off of your bestie. Tickets start at $25 for access to both day & night parties on Friday & Saturday May 5th & 6th.
