Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in San Diego: A Guide to the City’s Best Festivities

Cinco de Mayo Festivities in San Diego

Cinco de Mayo is more than just a date on the calendar; it’s a vibrant celebration of culture and joy, particularly in a city as lively and diverse as San Diego. With its close proximity to Mexico, San Diego offers a unique opportunity to engage in authentic Mexican traditions and enjoy a weekend filled with exciting festivities. Here’s a guide to some of the top events where you can revel in the food, parties, and cultural richness that make Cinco de Mayo a highlight of the year.

Fiesta Cinco de Mayo in Old Town San Diego

Old Town San Diego is the heart of Cinco de Mayo celebrations in the city. This historic area comes alive with a weekend-long festival that is free to the public. Enjoy a variety of Mexican food, drink specials, and artisan crafts along San Diego Avenue and Harney Street. The festival is family-friendly, with activities like paper flower making and bilingual story time. It’s a fantastic way to experience Mexican culture in a festive atmosphere.

We highly recommend taking the trolley or carpooling as the area begins to get crowded as soon as the festivities begin! We also recommend bringing a refillable water container and some sunscreen as the weather has been a lil’ wild lately.

  • Date: May 4 & 5, 2024
  • Time: Sat: 10am-8pm, Sun: 10am-6pm

Your ticket fee for entry is just that, for entry. If you plan on living your wildest foodie dreams, be prepared to shell out extra dough for any additional items you wanna’ grab along the way.

Starting with an opening party at American Junkie, the crawl offers free entry to top-rated venues, hosted shots, and specially planned routes for a seamless celebration experience.

In the Gaslamp, we highly recommend taking an uber. We also recommend dressing a little nicer than you would for the family BBQ as most venues will have a dress code.
