About the Cooper Family Juneteenth Celebration:

For the past 50 years, the Cooper Family Juneteenth has been a unique event in San Diego. Its history traces back to Sidney Cooper Sr., a proud Black man who believed in the importance of supporting Black-owned businesses, giving back to the community, fostering entrepreneurship, and getting an education. Known as “the Mayor of Imperial Avenue” for his heavy involvement in and love for his community, Sidney hosted Juneteenth as one of the many ways he gave back to the neighborhood he cared for so much. Today, we honor his vision by continuing to celebrate African-American presence and contributions to the San Diego community.

Our primary goals are to provide a cultural and educational experience, nurture pride in African-American history and culture, unify all San Diegans, and foster community healing and well-being.

We would be unable to do this without the participation and sponsorship from the following businesses and agencies: Floyd Robinson Foundation, New Assurance Baptist Church, Southeast Community Church, Black Contractors Association, Triple Threat Ballers, Rotary Club of Southeast San Diego, San Diego Crisis Line, San Ysidro Health Services, Black Infant Health Program, County of San Diego, Rancho Market, Brunos, Walmart, Backpacks Filled with Love, and Ever Prime Concepts.

Join us for a day of unity, celebration, and community healing at the Cooper Family Foundation Juneteenth Celebration. We look forward to seeing you there!
