“East of Wall” – Movie Review

The movie, East Of Wall… comes in as my latest review.

To start off, It’s interesting how hip hop intersects cowboy core.

I say that because, if you were to ask how to define America, what would you use as a reference point?

Much of American culture seems to be hip hop based, but you could also say Its country and Americana as well. Which is why the intersect seems so significant yet so smooth.

Throughout mainstream culture, gen Z, gen alpha, Millennials and Gen Xers, all grew up with 808s hard trap type beats, so even though some country acclaimed artists like Shaboozey, Post Malone, even Jelly Roll all have come to have a deep 808 beat sound, it seems to be seamlessly interwoven into their Country music.

As a hip hop head, and ‘murica lover, I can get down with all of that blending and mixing.

I was watching this particular movie, East Of Wall, and it’s definitely about cowboys, cowgirls, and life on a ranch as the theme, but, throughout the ranch life, I noticed how the protagonists in the story, use tiktok to sell their horses and they also are considered pretty hip, in their particular ranch culture, being cool, and using social media transcends throughout genres, but the ranch culture wasn’t absolved of hip hop just because its a country based film. There were times where the girls would be hanging out and some sort of trap 808 would be playing but it was a country western feeling.

That was fascinating to me.

Many People will talk trash about, “hip hop” as a genre of music, but yet it’s interwoven in the fabric of all different lifestyles, even those OUTSIDE of just urban, street and inner city communities.

From a feel good story point of view, the movie was pretty decent. It taught me a lot about the importance of marketing your business, the importance of ownership, the opportunities that come with acquiring funding, and of course the growing pains that come with operating a business under financial duress, verses operating in abundance.

One of the gifted horse trainers, and horse riders, Porsha, was doing tricks on the horse, similar to what you might see from the DMX & The L.OX. type ruff ryder bike riders.

That was a hard realization that although the culture may be different, the ideology Is the same, in that, if you’re a (rough) rider and embedded in your culture, you’re a Ruff rider (embedded in the scene and in tuned to the culture) for life.

All and all, If you like cowboy core, I recommend you check it out. And let me know your thoughts.

I give it a 7.9/10
