There are some concerts that simply entertain you, while others remind you why live music still matters.

Saturday night at Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre was one of those nights that most definitely reminded you why live music is still a priority in modern culture.

With Burning Spear opening the evening and Ziggy Marley headlining, the lineup featured two artists whose influence on reggae continues to span generations.

While each performance had its own identity, both artists passion and delivery reflected that of the music, culture, and message that have defined reggae for decades.

As the sun began to set, many fans continued to fill the amphitheater.

Families, reggae enthusiasts, and a younger generation of fans discovering the music all found their place in the crowd.

The atmosphere on the warm Saturday night was relaxed from the start, which ultimately set the tone for a summer evening built around live music, community, and a shared appreciation for Reggae.

Burning Spear opened the night with the steady confidence that has defined his career for more than five decades.

Backed by an outstanding band featuring layered percussion and a standout horn section, the reggae pioneer delivered a performance rooted in musicianship and authenticity. He even took time to play the congas.

Later in the evening, Ziggy Marley took the stage with his full band, carrying that same spirit into the second half of the night.

Backing vocalists, horns, and a polished rhythm section created a rich, full sound as the amphitheater transitioned from the warm colors of sunset to vibrant stage lighting.

Playing in the outdoor amphitheater created the kind of setting that was made for a Southern California summer concert.

One of the evening’s highlights wasn’t limited to the merely the stage. If you took a look around the venue, it was easy to see multiple generations enjoying the same experience.

Some fans danced throughout the performance while others that were seated, clearly shared the same appreciation for the music.

The unity that was showcased throughout the night is one of reggae’s greatest strengths. You could see evidence of this, by acknowledging that Decades after many of these songs were first introduced to the world, they still continue to connect people across generations, and cultures.

Saturday night’s stop in San Diego was another reminder of that timeless impact.

For atleast this one summer evening, Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre became a gathering place for reggae fans of all ages.

Between Burning Spear’s legendary opening performance and Ziggy Marley’s dedication to completing the concert’s sonic mission, this night served as another reminder to all in attendance that great music always finds a way to bring the people together.
